A 10-year member of the Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of St. Joseph County Board has announced her resignation.
A month after she was excluded from a closed-session discussion because she was attending the meeting via telephone, Three Rivers resident Rebecca Black said she is embarrassed by the current makeup of the board.
Black said she has concerns that center on the appointment process taken to bring new members onto the 12-member board. Black alleges that the board’s members are not in compliance with state requirements that dictate the makeup of the its representatives.
Black expressed concern that the board’s appointments may compromise its Medicaid payments from the state, a source of funding that Black said is significant.
Saying she no longer feels honored to serve as a CMH board member, Black urged St. Joseph County residents to monitor the actions of the board and decide whether decisions it makes are self-serving or in the best interest of the agency and its clients.
