The St. Joseph County Commission on Aging has received an $8,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America, made possible through a donation from the Kellogg “25-Year Employees Fund.”
For the third consecutive year, Meals on Wheels America partnered with the Kellogg 25-Year Employees Fund to distribute nutrition and capacity-building grants to organizations within a geographic proximity to a Kellogg facility.
This is the first time the local COA has been selected as a grant recipient through the program.
COA Executive Director Tim Stoll said the grant will allow the agency to provide breakfast year-round to seniors with the greatest need.
The price of a breakfast meal costs the COA just over three dollars per meal. At this rate, Stoll said, the grant will provide an additional 2,500 meals to area seniors.
