State Boundary Commission approves annexation

Michigan’s State Boundary Commission voted Wednesday to approve its April recommendation supporting Three Rivers’ effort to annex a 77-acre property from Lockport Township.
By a 3-2 tally in the commission’s office in Lansing, the panel stayed consistent with its April 12 split vote.
With Wednesday’s move, Shelly Edgerton, director of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, is expected to offer her endorsement in two to four weeks.
Three Rivers Mayor Tom Lowry said the five-member panel Wednesday approved the minutes of the April meeting. It subsequently approved findings that its staff compiled and also the recommendation to Edgerton to approve the annexation from the township to the city.
Lowry said he suspects it will be 15 to 30 days before the matter appears before Edgerton.
The $4.1 million, 17-field “Field of Dreams” proposal is slated for an area bordered by West Main Street to the west and Buckhorn Road to the east.
