Flowerfield Township officials this week heard a number of comments from township residents concerned about a proposed pig farm.
Backed by H&H Feeds of Vicksburg, the potential operation would be located on the north side of M-216 between Stuck and Oak Plains roads. Township supervisor Carroll Parmeter said according to H&H’s petition to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, it would have at full capacity 2,400 pigs on site.
Parmeter said zoning administrator Doug Kuhlman indicated Michigan’s Right-To-Farm Act will make it virtually impossible for the township to stop the proposed development. Parmeter said Kuhlman urged concerned citizens to contact Stephen Mahoney at the state agency.
In the meantime, Kuhlman indicated he would attempt to contact H&H in an effort to find out more about its plans and a timeline, according to Parmeter.
