David Hinkley, 47

David W. Hinkley, age 47, of Schoolcraft, and a former Sturgis resident, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1969, in Sturgis, a son of Wayne and Tandra (McLauchlin) Hinkley.
David resided in Schoolcraft for the past four years, coming from Portage, and his early life was lived in Sturgis, where he was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1988.
For the past four years, he had been employed by KSS Enterprises in Kalamazoo. He also worked for several years at Americraft Carton in Sturgis and had worked as a firefighter with Sturgis Fire Department and as an EMT with Parker’s Ambulance Service and LifeCare Ambulance Services.
David was the type of person who never met a stranger and enjoyed listening to music, fishing, bowling and playing golf and spending time with his many friends. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and Pistons, and loved his Notre Dame Fighting Irish. David had many hobbies and enjoyments, but what he truly cherished was each and every minute he spent with the love of his life, his son.
He is survived by a son, Darien Hinkley of Portage; stepchildren Steven Judd and Jessica Judd, both of Portage; his parents, Wayne and Tandra Hinkley of Sturgis; a sister, Kelli (Ken) Eaton of Portage; grandmother Nellie Riddle of Centreville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In accordance with family wishes, cremation will take place. A gathering of family and friends to honor and celebrate the life of David W. Hinkley will be held from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion, 500 W. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
