The search is on for a county administrator

A plan to find a successor for Pat Yoder as county administrator was set in motion this week.

During Wednesday’s executive committee meeting, commissioners agreed to advertise the job for a two-week period on the county’s website.

Human resources director Teresa Doehring was named assistant county administrator in May 2016 and has served as Yoder’s protégé since then. Though Doehring appears to have an inside edge on securing the position, Yoder said commissioners want to be fair in considering other potential candidates.

Doehring was instructed to compile the wording of the advertisement, and Yoder will receive and review all applications.

Yoder last month informed county commissioners of his intentions to retire at the end of the year. Yoder, 67, for four years served as the county’s first administrator when the position was created in 1990. He returned in April 2013.

Yoder’s salary as the highest-ranking, non-elected official in St. Joseph County is $120,166 annually. He said it will be up to the board to decide the salary of his successor.
