Anti-gerrymandering signing event held

A group of Three Rivers officials and residents staged a Signing Celebration Wednesday in hopes of placing a ballot measure before Michigan voters next year.

Led by the group “Voters Not Politicians,” the effort is in support of anti-gerrymandering, the strategy of drawing political boundaries to tailor congressional and legislative districts to favor one political party over another.

In order for the anti-gerrymandering law to appear before voters, more than 316,000 signatures are needed to appear on the November 2018 ballot. The proposal requires an amendment to the state constitution.

Three Rivers Mayor Tom Lowry, and commissioners Norm Stutesman and Janell Hart were involved in the local event Wednesday at Lowry Books.
