Helen “Marie” Nichols, age 88, of Colon, passed away Wednesday Sept. 13, 2017, with her daughters at her side, at Three Rivers Health.
Marie was born June 24, 1929, in Polson, Mont., a daughter of the late J. Ross and Audrey (Mater) Eggstaff.
She had lived most all of her life in the Leonidas and Colon area, graduating from Colon High School with the class of 1947.
She was married to Phil Tunison, John Gross and, later, Jerry Nichols.
Marie had worked for General Telephone for many years, retiring in 1989. She was an organist for several area churches and also was known for her singing ability. She was a member of Sherwood Crossroads Bible Church and also a member of Colon Lioness Club. Marie was a homemaker and mom to many kids.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Nichols of Colon; a half-brother Lloyd (Dawn) Eggstaff of Kingman, Ariz.; two daughters, Kathie (Randy) Scott of Bark River and Tami Boudreau of Colorado; a son-in-law, John Smith of Colon; stepchildren Budd (Jodi) Gross, Cathy Walters, Colleen Erickson and Chip Nichols; grandchildren Christopher “Fox” Wallace, Sarah Sandstrom, Adam Smith, Matt Smith and T.J. Smith; great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Smith; and a half-sister, Lucille Simpson.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
A memorial service celebrating the life of H. Marie Nichols will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Sherwood Crossroads Bible Church. Pastor Trent Hamond will officiate.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made to Crossroads Bible Church, 1144 Dunks Road, Sherwood, MI 49089. Private burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
