Pie eating contest raises money

A representative from Three Rivers Community Schools was the winner of the fourth-annual pie-eating contest Saturday at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair.

Athletic director Andy Mains was the first of eight contestants to finish their pie in the competition, which requires participants to not use their hands.

Mains, who opted for a chocolate pie, participated in an effort to raise funds for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.

His competitors were: Adam Bowen from Colon; Matt Hawkins from Centreville High School; Steve Wilson, Constantine superintendent; Reid Leaverton representing Burr Oak; Jerome Wolff from Nottawa School; Doug Camburn, transportation director of Sturgis Public Schools; and Teresa Belote, superintendent of St. Joseph County Intermediate School District.

Neither Mendon nor White Pigeon sent a representative to the event.

An announcement regarding total attendance for the seven-day fair, which concluded Saturday, is forthcoming.
