CTA ridership increases slightly

The St. Joseph County Transportation Authority recorded a minor increase in ridership during its latest fiscal year compared to the previous 12 months.

Chris Yorks, operations manager of the Three Rivers-based agency, said 95,212 rides were provided in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. That is up 789 rides from the 94,423 it gave in the 2015-16 fiscal year.

He said it’s not unusual for ridership numbers to rise or drop annually by a small margin, so there was nothing unusual about the latest data, which translated into an increase of less than one-tenth of a percent.

Yorks said the number of senior riders was also up from the previous fiscal year. Yorks said 22,026 senior rides were provided in 2016-17, up from 21,569 in 2015-16.

Regarding Circle Line ridership in Three Rivers and Sturgis, Yorks said both routes remain strong and have proven to be a solid addition to the agency’s special services.

The CTA has a fleet of 30 vehicles.
