Colon man charged with attempted murder

A 33-year-old Colon man was charged with attempted murder of a law-enforcement official following an incident Tuesday afternoon in Colon Township.

State police officials said troopers were dispatched to the 32000 block of Eleanor Drive in response to a suicidal subject with a gun.

A family member arrived on the scene and attempted to talk the suspect into surrendering. The suspect then made threats to kill the family member and himself. Authorities said the suspect began yelling from inside the residence at officers and without warning fired one round, nearly striking an officer outside.

The suspect then exited the house with the gun still in hand. After a brief standoff, the suspect threw his gun on the ground and attempted to run back into the house. A trooper and deputy confronted the suspect before he was able to barricade himself. The suspect was tasered and taken into custody without further incident.
