James “Jim” Alfred Platz Sr., age 90, of Constantine, passed away Nov. 7, 2017, in Sarasota, Fla.
He was born July 10, 1927, in Scott, Ind., to George and Mae (Hurst) Platz.
On Feb. 1, 1947, he married his school days sweetheart, Vivian Broadworth, who survives him along with four children, Sharon (Rick) Soice, Gwendolyn (James) Carpenter, James Jr. (Jane) and John, along with five grandchildren, LaNae and Michael Fager of San Antonio, Texas, James Platz III of Fishers, Ind., Jeff and Hope of Constantine; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kayola Hershberger of Middlebury, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine (George) Platz.
Jim was a lifelong farmer, joined by his son and partner, John. Together, they became one of the first seed corn growers in St. Joseph County. Upon Jim’s retirement, grandson Jeff joined John in the farming operation.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Maynard and George; and sisters Mary and Faye.
Cremation has taken place, with internment to be at a later date in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.
