Marilyn Elizabeth (Anderson) Gosling, age 85, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018. Marilyn was the eldest daughter of Ellerth “Andy” and Eva (Hagen) Anderson, and was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on May 30, 1932. She grew up in Ishpeming, moving to White Pigeon following her graduation from the University of Michigan (Phi Beta Kappa). She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Christopher (Linda) Gosling of Roselle, IL and Bruce (Leslie) Gosling of White Pigeon; four grandchildren, Ian C.L. Gosling, Tamara (Kurt) Carver, Joshua Hahn, and Megan (Jack Johnson) Gosling; two great-granddaughters; and her sister, Judith Bartol.
Marilyn’s greatest interest in life was books and reading, especially British murder mysteries. This fondness of books and reading led to her lifelong desire to be a librarian. When her sons were in school full time, Marilyn returned to college earning a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University. Her first job was Librarian for the Congress Street School in Sturgis, followed by working at the Sturgis Public Library. Finally, in 1969, she became the Head Librarian of Glen Oaks Community College. This position was truly her niche and one she enjoyed fully until her retirement in 1993. In retirement she enjoyed travel with friends, time with family, attending all manner of conventions, and of course her beloved books.
Those wishing to make a donation in Marilyn’s memory are urged to consider the Salvation Army, or the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 pm Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon.
