United Way fundraiser well attended

The second annual Trivia Night, organized by the St. Joseph County United Way, drew a full house at nearly 150 people Saturday.

The $30-per-person cost, 50/50 ticket sales and proceeds from a silent auction all went to the Five Star Pizza Adoption Fund. In all, more than $5,000 was raised.

Carl Thornton, owner of Five Star Pizza in Colon, said he is indebted to the local United Way and its executive director, Kelly Hostetler, for supporting the fund he and his wife started four years ago to honor his sister.

Thornton’s South Korean sister, Lynnsue, was barely seven months old when she was adopted by Thornton’s parents in 1972. She was less than a week old when she was found abandoned on a city bus.

There were 25 tables at the trivia event and a maximum per table was six people.

Vanessa Greenfield was the 50/50 winner, netting her $320, and the winning team included Ken and Laura Rhodes, and Andrew and Anna Kuk.
