Forrest Richard Bower, age 91, formerly of Sturgis and Mendon, died on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville. He was born in Nottawa on March 30, 1926 the son of Kearold G. and May S. (Eshleman) Bower. Forrest was employed by the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for over 30 years. He was an animal lover, and showed interest in cattle, and especially learning about raising rare breeds of chickens, making several trips throughout the US and Canada. In his later years he visited many zoos across the mid-west with his family.
Forrest is survived by two nieces, Shirley Ferguson and Pamela Craun of Battle Creek; a nephew, William Harroun of Mendon; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathleen “Katie” Harroun; and a brother, Byron Bower.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Nottawa Cemetery with Rev. Lon Bouma, Chaplain with Southern Care Hospice officiating. It is suggested that donations be directed to any animal shelter or rescue fund. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
