Cleon Wayne Shultz, age 85, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018, at his home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Sharon, Conn., a son of the late Albert and Letha (Grove) Shultz.
Cleon resided in Sturgis since 1956, coming from Brighton, Ind., where he was a graduate of Brighton High School with the class of 1957. While in high school, Cleon excelled in athletics.
On June 23, 1957, he married Janet Holtz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
He had been employed by Sturgis Newport Business Forms for many years until the business closed. Following the closing, he and Paul Zeeb established Sturgis Register Forms in 1988 and operated the business until their retirement in 2003 when the business was sold.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and a life member of Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW. Cleon was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In his younger years, he enjoyed league bowling and playing softball and he was an avid loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 60 years, Janet; two daughters, Stacy Bontrager of Sturgis and Jennifer (Craig) Shoup of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Courtney (Kent) Schmucker of Sturgis, Alecia (Adam) Pieronski of Sturgis, Adam Bontrager of Sturgis, Jacob Shoup of Galesburg and Evan Shoup of Galesburg; six great-grandchildren, Cloey Schmucker, Kryssalyn Schmucker, McKenzie Pieronski, Kayla Schmucker, Lilah Pieronski and Leona Pieronski, and expecting the first great-grandson any day; a sister, Rosemary (Donald) Kyle of Middlebury, Ind.; a brother, Keith Shultz of Howe, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Scott Shultz; brother and sister-in-law: Lavere and Marjorie Shultz and sister-in-law: Norma Jean Shultz.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Memorial service celebrating the life of Cleon W. Shultz will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate.
