Barry G. Slavic, age 78, of Matteson Township, and formerly of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at his home on Matteson Lake.
Barry was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Brownsville, Pa., a son of the late George and Evelyn (Ursits) Slavic.
In November 2009, he married Carol L. Kelley in Livonia.
Barry had made his home at his present address for the past six months, and prior to that had lived in Sturgis and the Detroit area.
He retired from Ford Parts and Distribution in Lavonia after 30 years of service.
Barry was a member of VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, The Masons, Loyal Order of Moose and Deep Creek Florida Elks.
Barry is survived by his wife, Carol Slavic of Bronson; two daughters, Deanna Slavic-Hanner of Milford and Melissa Nostrant of Northville; three grandchildren, Sarah Hanner, Emily Hanner and Brendan Nostrant; stepchildren Darcy (Greg) Crites of Sturgis, Kristi (Dave) McAllister of Morrisville, Vt., and Steven Kelley of Sturgis; eight step-grandchildren; and a sister, Twila Slavic of Macomb.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah, who passed in 1980.
A gathering of family and friends will take place 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018, at his home.
If desired, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Barry. The family was assisted by Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
