Constantine amends grass ordinance

Constantine Village Council members this week approved an amendment to the code of ordinances as it applies to grass, weeds, brush and other vegetation.

The ordinance states such growth will be cut by the village if the length exceeds 8 inches, with expenses charged to the property owner. Previously, if a violation was reported, a property owner was notified by mail and had seven days to mow.

The newly adopted amendment dispenses with the warning.

Village manager Mark Honeysett said the new policy closely follows Three Rivers’ ordinance, which defines 12 inches of growth and over as a violation.

Honeysett said the new amendment will shorten the hours required for code enforcement officer Mike Haydon.
