Karen Stukey, 75

Karen Ann Stukey, age 75, of Sturgis, was called home Saturday morning, April 14, 2018, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, to be with her Lord and her husband Mel who was waiting to welcome her home to glory.
She was born June 10, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Ralph and Eunice (White) Fraylick, the oldest of five children.
On Sept. 10, 1971, she married Melvin Stukey in Sturgis. He died May 4, 2008.
Karen worked for ten years for Dr. Claire F. Wiedlea as a dental assistant. She also worked many years in Sturgis in the retail business, making many new friends at the New Impressions ladies clothes store and for 12 years at the Village Trading Post located in the Davis Mercantile in Shipshewana, where she sold oak furniture and Victorian lace.
Karen had a true talent and appreciation for music singing for 40 years in choirs, A Capella choirs, duets and trios. Karen performed with many choirs and groups but what she truly loved was singing with the love of her life Mel.
She is survived by one daughter: Angela Renee Stukey of Sturgis; one son: Jeffrey (Mary Jo) Stukey of Caledonia; one step-daughter: Christine (Duane) Gonser of Sturgis; one step-son: Jon Stukey of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey; five grandchildren: April (Galen) Geigley of Nottawa, Faith Hazlewood and Joshua Hazlewood both of Sturgis and Megan Stukey and Caleb Stukey both of Caledonia; two great granddaughters: Carina Geigley and Cierra Geigley; three sisters: Paula (Paul) Merrifield of Fairbanks, Alaska, Sherry (John) King of Rochester and Pamela (Jack) Armstrong of Three Rivers; one brother: Larry (Deb) Fraylick of Port Charlotte, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Karen Ann Stukey will be held at 11 a.m, Wednesday at the Sturgis Evangelical Church, 28201 E. Fawn River Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091. The Rev. Rodger Moyer and Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Home, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted with the arrangements.
The family suggests and Karen’s wishes were in lieu of flowers memorial donations be directed to the National Kidney Foundation , 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
