Damian James Lee Long, age 22, of Sturgis, passed away early Saturday morning, May 26, 2018, in Florence Township, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born July 22, 1995, in Sturgis, a son of James Long and Dawn (Rhoades) Hayes.
Damian resided most of his life in Sturgis and attended Sturgis High School.
He was currently employed by Miller Concrete in Sturgis.
Damian loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and, from a very early age, digging holes. He also was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed working on automobiles.
He is survived by his children, Bow Long of Coldwater and Lili Gard of Ligonier, Indiana; mother and step-father Dawn and Tony Hayes of Sturgis; his father, James Long of Sturgis; two sisters, Shelby (Brandon) Brewer of Sturgis and Autum (Brad) Baldwin of Sturgis; a stepbrother, Shawn Hayes of Sturgis; grandmothers Mary Ramer and Nelda Foster, both of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Claude Long and Dennis Rhoades.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Damian James Lee Long will be held at 1 p.m.Friday at the funeral home. Pastors Bill Rinehart and Dwight Metzger will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Ind.
