Sturgis City Commissioner resigns

Three days after a recall effort against her was dismissed, Ina Taulbee has resigned from the Sturgis City Commission.

The 2nd precinct commissioner announced her resignation Thursday.

A key factor in her decision centers on controversy related to medical marijuana in the city. Taulbee said the topic has brought with it a great deal of negative interaction that has become personal.

On Monday last week, the St. Joseph County Election Commission found the petition language in her recall effort was of insufficient clarity.

Taulbee has served as a city commissioner since 2007.

After the city commission accepts Taulbee’s resignation, the position will be advertised. Following the application deadline, commissioners will interview candidates and appoint a new colleague.
