Harold LaVerne Moyer, age 95, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018.
Harold was born Aug. 16, 1922, to Ezra and Myrtle (Noel) Moyer. He graduated from Constantine High School in 1940. He entered International Business College in Fort Wayne, where he later was employed by General Electric Company.
In February 1943, he was drafted into the Army’s 62nd medical Battalion, serving behind the front battle lines. This unit was part of the Normandy Invasion of France. While service as a Buck Corporal in the 635th Medical Clearing Company, he won five Battle Stars and served in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and France. He retired to Constantine in 1946, where he was employed at White Pigeon Paper Mill.
On July 24, 1948, he married Josephine Wilson. They shared 54 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death March 9, 2003.
Besides being employed by White Pigeon Paper for 17 years, he also worked at Sturgis Newport Business Forms for five years; Constantine Creamery for three years; and Gray Brothers Stamping for 14 years.
After he retired, he went to work for Shipshewana Flea Market, where he worked for 30 years. This turned out to be one of the best decisions of his life. Friends and relationships that were formed continued the rest of his life.
Harold was a member of Constantine Lodge No. 35 of Free and Accepted Masons for 67 years. He also was a charter member of White Pigeon Liars Club; and a member of Middlebury American Legion post #210.
Harold enjoyed life. He enjoyed living on the lake, going to the Liar’s Club, working at the flea market and going to his lodge meetings. He loved his family. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for many years to come.
Surviving are his daughters, Lori Neff of Shipshewana, and Jill (Rob) Young of Delton. He has two granddaughters, Sarah (Dustin) Lancaster of Plainwell and Molly Baker of Delton. He has one grandson, Jacob Baker of Delton; three great-granddaughters, Ravyn and Lily Lancaster and Natalynn Townsend; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where a Masonic candlelight service will begin at 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Norm Glassburn officiating. Interment will follow in Mottville Township Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post #210. A luncheon will follow at Silver Spoons in White Pigeon. Donations may be made to Constantine Masonic Lodge.
