John J. Neuenschwander, age 75, of Burr Oak, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Berne, Indiana on May 11, 1943 the son of Jonas C. and Lovina (Schwartz) Neuenschwander. He was married to Elizabeth Schwartz in Berne on Dec. 1, 1966. They have lived near Burr Oak since 1996. He was a member and Bishop in the Old Order Amish Church.
John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; five children, John Neuenschwander of Keystone, IN, Jonas (Veronica) Neuenschwander of Burr Oak, Elizabeth (Neal Dean) Bontrager of Colon, Victor (Rachel) Neuenschwander of Centreville, and Christian (Marilyn) Neuenschwander of Mendon; thirty-eight grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Pete (Naomi) Neuenschwander of Geneva, IN; two sisters, Lea (Dan) Schwartz of Geneva, IN and Lydia (Jacob) Schwartz of Bryant, IN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Chris (Anna) Neuenschwander.
The family will; receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 8 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM to 8 PM at the Community Youth Center (CYC), 59321 Nottawa Road, Centreville, MI 49032. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM Monday, July 9, 2018 at CYC, followed by interment in the Old Amish Cemetery on Truckenmiller Road. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
