Terry Johnson, 76

Terry Alfred Johnson, age 76, of Burr Oak, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at home on the farm and in the arms of the woman he loved.
He was born June 3, 1942, in Mishawaka, to Kenneth Dale and L. Verniece (Andrews) Johnson. After graduating from Orland High School in 1960, he served in the U.S. Marine Reserves, earning the rank of sergeant. He then received a bachelor’s degree in education from Western Michigan University. Terry taught school at Colon High School for over 25 years, primarily serving as their woodshop teacher. He was a lifelong farmer, raising both animals and crops.
For 52 years, he was married to his loving wife, Pamela Ann Millett, beginning on June 11, 1966. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Christopher Johnson of Bancroft and Michael Johnson of Howe, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Verlin Johnson.
Utilizing his woodworking skills, he and his students produced wooden toys and donated them to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign for many years to provide Christmas cheer for many needy children. Terry was also a lifelong outdoorsman and sportsman.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club in Sturgis; or Pine Knob Park, c/o LaGrange County Parks and Recreation. Cremation services have been provided by Dutcher Funeral Home, www.dutcherfh.com.
