Acknowledging the hardship imposed by an employee leaving the prosecutor’s office, members of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners have made an exception to their hiring freeze.
Fulfilling a request by prosecutor John McDonough, commissioners this week gave him permission to replace Tim George, whose last day was July 27. George took a job with a Sturgis-based law firm.
McDonough acknowledged the opportunity afforded George more money than what the county could pay. He further noted that his office has been doing more with less, as another former employee in his office took advantage of the county’s early-retirement offer this year and that position was never filled.
