John Marshall, 84

John Vincent Marshall, age 84, of White Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born in New Brighton, Pa. on March 19, 1934, to Daniel Vincent and Mary Elizabeth Marshall. The family moved frequently when John was young, but settled in Ft. Wayne, Ind. where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Schnelker on Sept. 25, 1954.
John and Dolores moved their family to Sturgis, Mich., in 1964. John was employed by DuoTherm in LaGrange, ARCH Workshop in Sturgis, and retired from Metal Spinners in Angola.
John was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for decades, and of St. Joseph in White Pigeon for the last 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Exchange Club, a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a 16-year member of the Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dolores; five children, Karen (Allan) Stimson, Kathy Marshall, Daniel (Jeannette) Marshall, Diane (Glenn) Kirkham, and John (Leslie) Marshall, Jr.; 12 grandchildren, Aaron (Holly) Kirkham, Katie (Rick) Rizzo, Eric (Sarah) Stimson, Emily Stimson, Lauren Kirkham, John Marshall III, Carli Jo (fiancé Hunter Smith) Kirkham, Elizabeth Marshall, Molly Marshall, Ellen Stimson, Jacob Marshall, and Adam Marshall; seven great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Arthur and Marcella Schnelker; siblings Jean Altmeyer, Betty (Robert) Sheets, Joseph (Patricia) Altmeyer; dear niece, Mary Elizabeth Altmeyer; and brothers-in-law Joseph Weingartner and Alan Schnelker.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed a good joke or prank, especially if shared with his good friends. He was always in attendance at his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
The family wishes to thank Sturgis Home Healthcare and Hospice, especially Dr. Patel, Janine, Rose, JoAnn, and Kim.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
A Rosary Service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 16603 US 12, White Pigeon, MI 49099 with Rev. Father Evilio Ramirez, celebrant.
Interment and graveside services will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in White Pigeon.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hospice of Sturgis, or the Knights of Columbus, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
