Colon approves village manager contract

Eight months to the day they declined to renew the contract of their village manager, Colon municipal leaders finally found the long-sought replacement.

A contract for Patricia Rayl was approved by the Colon Village Council during Tuesday’s meeting. The $60,000 contract will secure Rayl’s services for at least one year.

Council member Ruth Ann Kuhlmann said four applications were received and two candidates interviewed.

Rayl is Colon’s second village manager. She replaces Mike Mitchell, who was let go March 13 after one year on the job.

Rayl, who graduated from Mason High School in Ingham County, currently is deputy treasurer for Blackman Township in Jackson County. Her previous experience includes city manager for a Bay County community and Downtown Development Authority director for the village of Blissfield in Lenawee County before that.
