Recreational marijuana discussed in Constantine

Constantine Village Council members this week discussed allowing recreational marijuana businesses to operate in the village.

Village manager Mark Honeysett said an ordinance needs to be adopted against it or recreational marijuana businesses can come in if they so desire.

Michigan became the 10th state to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and over, when Michigan voters approved the measure in November, creating the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act.

The council approved applications for 11 medical marijuana facilities last year.

Honeysett said he expects all 11 to eventually open once they are licensed through the state.

The council last February approved applications for five commercial medical marijuana facilities, including a processing facility, three provisioning centers, and a grow facility, but Honeysett said an application submitted by Tom Nemeth of Herbal Advantage was withdrawn.
