This is the time of the year where it’s imperative that our utilities are in working order. There are too many out there who have furnaces in working order, but aren’t working because their utilities have been shut off for one reason or another. To assist these individuals, there will be a Walk for Warmth on Saturday, February 23, beginning at 9 AM. The walk will begin at the Carol Shippy Center, 1000 East Broadway in Three Rivers. Purpose of the walk is to help raise funds in order to help low-income families, the elderly, and disabled residents keep their utilities on, and stay warm. All concerned citizens are invited to help with this worthwhile event.
The renown Riviera Theater is a Three Rivers treasure that many residents take for granted. It has been the venue for many fantastic events such as “Three Men and a Tenor” and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Most recently, the theater was available to watch this year’s Super Bowl. Admission was free, yet attendance was sparse. I’d like everyone to think seriously about keeping up-to-date on what’s playing at the Riviera. Admission is always reasonable and refreshments are plentiful. Here’s an example of what’s coming up at the Riviera in historic downtown Three Rivers:
On February 14, Valentine’s Day, the classic movie “Casablanca”. There will be only one showing at 6 PM. This could be the start of a wonderful relationship and a very romantic evening with a loved one.
Also on February 14, the movie “Stan & Ollie”. It follows “Casablanca” at 8:30 PM.
While at the theater, pick up a schedule of future attractions. There’s always plenty of room and plenty of free parking.
I’ve had plenty of experience with family pets. The four-footed family members have always been from a local animal shelter. The biggest problem I’ve encountered with pets from a shelter is telling them that they’ve been adopted. It can be a very traumatic experience.
I’ve had several people inquire about where to go and donate used eyeglasses for Lions Clubs International. If you have used eyeglasses or hearing aids and don’t want to throw them in the trash, here are some places in Three Rivers where you may drop them off:
In the lobby of City Hall.
In the lobby of the Three Rivers Post Office.
On the stair landing at LA’s Coffee Cafe.
Inside the west door of the Specialty Clinic, on the campus of Three Rivers Health.
At the Vision Center inside Meijer.
Fred’s Pharmacy at the Three Rivers Harding’s.
Sussex Vision.
River Country Eye Care on Broadway, south of Three Rivers Health.
These glasses are collected and delivered to a Lions Club in Grand Rapids. There, they are cleaned and checked before being hand-delivered to a third-world country, where they are given to a person in need.
