Roger Wayne Lego, age 65, of Sturgis, passed away early Saturday morning, March 16, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Sturgis, Mich., son of the late William A. and June (Shorey) Lego.
Roger was a lifelong Sturgis resident. On Dec. 10, 1976, he married Therese Cummins in La Plata, Md.
Roger retired in 2016 from Pulver Dryer following several years of dedicated employment. He also had been employed by Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 10 years, Skyline Manufacturing in Elkhart, Ind., Patriot Homes in Elkhart and Middlebury, Ind., Holly Park in Middlebury and Lifetime Manufactured Homes in Howe, Ind.
Roger was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of SP-4.
He enjoyed fishing and time spent with his family, especially while camping. He loved the quietness and tranquility he found at his home while working in his manicured yard or in his shop or grilling a meal for friends and family. All those who knew Roger will forever remember his giving heart and one always ready to help others.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Therese; a daughter, Melissa Ann Shearin of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Eric Wayne (Reka) Lego of Athens and Shawn (Jaime) Lego of Three Rivers; eight beautiful grandchildren, Kaydon, Shyanne, Logan, Ashlyn, Sienna, Carina, Joshua Grubb and Izzabella Grubb; two sisters, Kathryn Marie Schroeder of Sturgis and Terry Lee (David) Woods of White Pigeon; a brother, Elwyn Ray (Beth Ann) Lego of Central, S.C., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Kay Bowersox; and a nephew, Joseph Darnell “”Joey”” Lego.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.?Funeral services celebrating the life of Roger Lego will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Timothy Stover of Fish Lake Bible Church of Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
