Out and About – Week of April 8th

“It’s not my job.” This phrase is heard too much lately. I worked with a person who constantly said this. He was lazy and did exactly what was in his job description. Unfortunately, he was promoted, which didn’t say much about my employer.

How many times do you walk past a piece of litter and fail to reach down, pick it up, and dispose of it properly? How many times do you throw something out your car window without giving any thought about who is going to pick up your trash? We are living in a world where some of us feel we are owed something. I’ve mentioned several times that, while you’re out walking the dog or just walking for the exercise, and should you see litter in your path, you might bend down and pick it up. How many people do you know who, when visiting a fast-food eatery, leave their cups and sandwich wrappers on the table? Perhaps they are blind and don’t notice the trash receptacles in the room. Their excuse is usually, “That’s what someone else is paid to do. It’s not my job.”

Some very respected individuals have spoken some great truths. Let me share these with you:

If you haven’t filed your income taxes yet, you have less than a week to get them done. Next Monday, you must either file them by midnight, or go look for a cave where no one will ever find you.

A couple more rules that a parent might want to share with their children. More suggestions next week:

If you’ve been looking for a time and place to get rid of any hazardous waste, electronics, old tires, latex paint and appliances, your wait is over. This next Saturday, April 13, you may take these items to the St. Joe County Grange Fairgrounds and they’ll be happy to take them off your hands. There will be people there to receive these unwanted items from 8 AM until noon. Please use the entrance off M-86.
