The Brandenburg Concert, a local group from Three Rivers, will offer a FREE concert next Sunday, May 5, at the First Presbyterian Church, located on North Main Street, just south of Lafayette Park, in Three Rivers. Beginning at 3 PM, the concert, entitled “Requiem and Songs of the Spirit”, will feature Faure’s complete Requiem, plus an assortment of other songs from, medieval madrigals, various spirituals, and several pieces by contemporary composers. As mentioned, the concert is FREE, but there will be a freewill offering.
With summer just around the corner, I feel that road construction will soon begin. Starting in May, MDOT will start reconstructing US-131 from William R. Monroe Boulevard to north of Hoffman Road. This two-year project will also include reconstructing the US-131/M-60 interchange south of Broadway and improving the US-131 bridge deck over the Rocky River.
Here’s something you might want to seriously think about. I’ll call it “The Magic Bank Account”.
Imagine, if you will, that you had won the following prize in a contest: Each morning, your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for you to use. However, there are three rules that must be strictly obeyed. They are:
Everything you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you.
You may not transfer money into another account.
You may only spend it.
Each morning upon awakening, the bank would deposit another $86,400 into your account just for that day. The bank can end this game without warning; at any time, it can say, “Game Over!” It can close the account and you will not receive a new one. What would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?
Actually, this game is real. Each of us is already a winner of this prize. We just can’t seem to see it.
The prize is “Time”. Each morning, we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life. When we go to sleep each night, any remaining time is not credited to us. What we haven’t used up that day is gone forever. So, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds? Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in dollars. Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much more quickly than you might think.
So take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply, and above all, enjoy life. Tell those people who are important to you, just how much they are loved and appreciated. As Garry Moore used to say at the end of his television show, “Be kind to one another.”
