Mildred L. Russell, age 104, of Mendon, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Ascension-Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Mendon on July 25, 1914 the daughter of Roy D. and Elma (Mathis) Stiteler. She attended country schools and graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1931. Mildred was married to Oscar L. Russell in South Bend on Aug. 1, 1932. They resided briefly in Schoolcraft before moving to Kalamazoo. They established Russell’s Upholstery Shop and worked together for 45 years before retiring to Mendon in 1980. She enjoyed arts and crafts, making quilts and old-fashioned dolls, and working on word-search puzzles.
Mildred is survived by a daughter, Ellene McClish of Mendon; three grandsons, Keith (Sue) McClish of Mendon, Kevin (Budi) McClish of Orlando, FL, and Kenneth (Sherry) McClish of Leonidas; eight great-grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Stiteler of Mendon; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; brother, Doug Stiteler; sister, Ethel Fifer; and son in law, Eugene McClish.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the funeral home followed by interment at Mendon Cemetery.
