Joan Marie (Sturtz) Hoefle, age 76, of Marcellus, MI, passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital following an illness on Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 2019.
On September 24, 1942, Joan was born in Naticoke, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph Sturtz, Sr. and Alberta (Cromer) Sturtz.
On January 16, 1963, she married Donald Howard Hoefle, Sr. in Baltimore, MD. She became a step-mother to three children: Jane, Tona, and Richard. Together, they had three children: Donald, Jr., Darrell, and Beth Hoefle. They were married for 41 years before Donald, Sr. passed away in August of 2004.
She was a homemaker and babysitter for most of her life. To many of the local children she was known as “Grandma Joanie”. She loved listening to Elvis and Bluegrass music.
Joan is survived by her children: Tona (Ken) Miller, of Albion, IN, Rick (Sharon) Hoefle of Dothan, AL, Jane (Ed) Dils of Goshen, IN, Donald Hoefle, Jr. of Marcellus, Darrell (Amanda) Hoefle of Marcellus, and Beth Ann Miller of Sturgis, twelve grandchildren: Pam, Jason (Heather), Brett (Cyndee), Taryn, Jennifer, Pat, Falon, Alecia, Rodney, Jr., Tyler, Andie, and Randy, Jr., eight great-grandchildren: Devante, Dominique, Karissa, Jordyn, Abbigail, Natalie, Haylee, and Rodney III, three great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Joseph Sturtz, Jr., Bernard Sturtz, Charlie Sturtz, and her husband: Donald Hoefle, Sr.
The family would like to welcome friends for visitation on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Mater-Ralston Funeral Home in Marcellus from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, with the funeral service to be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11 AM at Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Marcellus Cemetery.
