Man injured in Cass County crash

A Mottville man was hospitalized after being involved in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Cass County’s Porter Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called to U.S. 12 at Birch Street around 5:30 p.m. Investigators found that a car driven by 32-year-old Christopher Alwine rear-ended a car driven by Casey Rumsey, 31, of Elkhart.

Both vehicles were eastbound and Rumsey’s vehicle was struck as it was waiting to turn left onto Birch Street from U.S. 12, authorities said.

Alwine was transported to Elkhart General Hospital; Rumsey was not injured.
