Out and About – Week of August 17th

SQUABBLES, a two-act comedy, opens this Friday evening at the Players’ Theatre on Millard Road, directly behind Dairy Queen, in Three Rivers. Performance dates are August 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30. The Friday and Saturday performances have a curtain time of 8 P.M. and the two Sunday matinees start promptly at 2 P.M. Tickets are available at Beam Sound and Video, 1115 West Michigan Avenue, Three Rivers. You may phone them at (269)279-6251. Tickets prices for adults are $10 and if you’re a senior citizen or student, your cost is $9. Tickets will, of course, be available at the door, but due to limited seating, advance purchase is advised. You’re invited to check out the Players’ website at www.trcommunityplayers.org.

This Saturday, August 22, the Three Rivers Lions Bill Smith Memorial Golf Outing  gets underway with an 8 A.M. shotgun start at the St. Joe Valley Golf Club on M-86, between Centreville and Nottawa. Registration will be handled between 7:15 and 7:45 A.M.  The outing will consist of four-person scrambles, with a cost of $40 per golfer or $160 per team. This includes 18 holes of golf with cart, dinner, door prizes for every golfer,  longest drive and closest to the pin contests, plus a putting contest during registration. Oh yes, the par-3 holes will have prizes for a hole in one. Dinner includes burgers, brats and several delicious sides. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, there will be a 50/50 drawing after dinner. All proceeds from this outing will go to the Three Rivers Lions project fund for eyeglasses and eye exams. What a perfect way to spend a Saturday. If you need more information, please contact Jim Meadows at 279-6228 or Steve Larink at 506-0591. You may also call the course at 467-6275.

Three Rivers Wildcat Football gets underway Thursday, August 27 at 7 P.M. The first game of the season is in Allegan, with the home opener on September 3 against Dowagiac. All games will be carried live on Three Rivers radio WRCI-FM, 97.1  Four of this season’s games will be played at Armstrong Field, right here in Wildcat country. If you’ve never attended a Wildcat football game, you have no idea what you’re missing. Fan support goes a long way as far as determining a victory for the CATS, so make sure you spend some of your fall evenings at Armstrong Field, home of the Three Rivers Wildcats.

My friend Tom Molter, Chairman of the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF), would like everyone to know that you are encouraged to call if you have questions about spaying or neutering your cat or dog. Call also if you find a stray animal that needs emergency care. Here are the numbers to call:  278-5500, 625-1596, 432-3642, or 467-6177. All of these numbers are in area code 269. All needs will be handled on an individual basis.

If you frequently ask “Huh?” or “What did you say?”, you might consider attending a program at the Three Rivers Senior Center, 103 South Douglas, on Friday, September 4, starting at 11:15 A.M. My buddy Vic Eichler will present a program for people who have or know of someone with hearing loss. Vic has had a loss of hearing, so he is quite knowledgeable about this very important topic. If you’d like more information, please contact the Senior Center at 279-8083 or 1-800-641-9899.
