Adolph Bayer, age 95, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Saturday
morning August 15, 2009 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born October 23, 1913 in Mineral, Kansas a son of the late Alois
and Erstina (Hypsch) Bayer.
Mr. Bayer’s early life was spent in Chicago where he became a
semi-professional baseball pitcher. He came to Sturgis in 1937 to
continue his baseball career playing for the Kirsch Company and later
with the Sturgis Booster baseball team and other baseball and softball
leagues.
On November 9, 1938 he married Violette Reno in Angola, Indiana. She
died February 22, 1992.
He was a talented tool and die maker and had worked at various
manufacturing companies in the Sturgis area until retiring from the
Harter Corporation in 1972.
He is survived by One daughter; Carol Ann Pastrick of Centreville, Two
Sons; Larry (Donna) Bayer of Portage and Brent (Jeryl) Bayer of Sturgis,
Four Grandchildren; Todd (Jeannie) Pastrick of Spring Lake, Matt (Helen)
Pastrick of Portage, Brian (Rachel) Bayer of Kalamazoo and Jennifer
Bayer of Portage and Four Great Grandchildren.
His parents, his loving wife; Violette, three stillborn daughters,
son-in-law; Wayne Pastrick, two sisters and one brother preceded him in
death.
Private burial took place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Hackman
Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI
49091, handled the arrangements.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr.
Bayer’s memory consider the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are
