Police investigate armed robbery

Sturgis police responded Tuesday afternoon to an armed robbery at a business on South Centerville Road.

Deputy Chief Ryan Banaszak said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 800 block of South Centerville Road. Banaszak said a woman entered Advance America and showed a firearm while demanding money.

The suspect left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen fleeing on foot southbound from the store. The suspect is described as about 5-foot-5, weighing approximately 160 pounds and having brown hair.

Sturgis officers were assisted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police K-9 unit.
