Elizabeth Dillon, 60

Elizabeth Ann Dillon, age 60, of Reading, passed away from complications associated with ALS on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 9, 1959 in Three Rivers, to Clinton and Dorothy (Fosdick) Shafer. On July 9, 1982 she married Patrick Dillon and he survives. She graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1977 and continued on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in special education from Central Michigan University. She retired from Camden-Frontier Schools after 34 years. She was a passionate educator and advocate of special education practice and law. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association as well as the St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater. She was very family-centered, her children and grandchildren were her life; Elizabeth was virtuous and she was dedicated to all that she did.

In addition to her husband, Patrick, survivors include daughter, Erin (Michael) Blanchard of Jackson; sons, Matthew (Deanna) Dillon and Ryan (Mary) Dillon both of Jackson; sister, Cherie McDonough of Fenton; mother-in-law, Jane Dillon of Jackson ; and four grandchildren with her fifth on their way, Henry Dillon, Nolan Blanchard, Colin Dillon, Bryce Blanchard, and Penelope Dillon. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, one brother John Shafer, one brother-in-law Pete McDonough, and her father-in-law Kenneth Dillon.

She would like to thank all of her teammates who joined her near and far with support and prayers during her journey through life especially the last couple of years. She was grateful to Hospice of Hillsdale County’s care team and volunteer help who she made special relationships with, the Camden-Frontier staff who were always by her side, ALS Michigan for their guidance, and regular visitors Janet, Julie, Michele, Erin, Stephanie, and Father Mark and Father Dan of St. Charles Borremmo Catholic Church who marked her faith and service to our Heavenly Father.

A memorial mass for Elizabeth A. Dillon will be held Monday, December 23, 2019 at 11 AM at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater with Father Dan Hyman and Father Mark Vyverman officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading and Monday from 10 AM until time of service at the church. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Life Line Food Pantry and the St. Charles Catholic Church.
