Local man crashes stolen car

A Three Rivers man was arrested after he crashed a stolen vehicle in Sturgis and attempted to flee from the scene.

Sturgis police said the incident originated at 8:35 a.m. Sunday at a business in the 600 block of West Fawn River Road.

Moments later, officers were called to the 100 block of Susan Avenue in response to a single-vehicle accident. Authorities said the driver attempted to flee from the scene but was apprehended a short distance away.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the crashed vehicle had been stolen by a 37-year-old man.

He was charged with third-offense driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, third-offense driving while license suspended and theft of a motor vehicle.

The suspect was also wanted on three outstanding warrants out of St. Joseph County.
