Man arrested following police pursuit

A 41-year-old Kalamazoo man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail after he was part of a pursuit involving Three Rivers Police.

According to a department media release, the incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Edgewater Apartments, where a resident flagged down a patrol officer.

The person told police about being threatened by a man with a handgun. A detailed description of the man was given and additional officers were dispatched.

The suspect and the vehicle he was driving were found a few blocks away. As an officer attempted to stop the driver, he sped away and threw from the vehicle what turned out to be identified as drug contraband.

The vehicle eventually crashed in the 1000 block of Madison Street. K9 Jake was called to the scene and responded to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Officers subsequently found methamphetamine and drug packaging inside the car.

The suspect was on federal probation at the time of his arrest, police said.
