Doris Jean (Chrisman) Evans, age 90, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully in Kalamazoo on Sunday, February 16, 2020. She was born on August 7, 1929 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Eash) Chrisman.
Doris was affectionately referred to as “Betty Crocker” by her children and she loved to bake and sew. She baked cookies and cakes for Christmas and birthdays for friends and family. She would bake thousands of cookies for church events. For over 55 years she has baked cookies on the day after Thanksgiving to give out for the Christmas season. She loved giving gifts and filling stockings for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She sold crafts at various craft shows around the South Haven area for over 30 years. She was known for making baby clothes, blankets, American Girl clothes and beds.
She is preceded in her passing by her husband and her sisters: Opal Brown and Irene Tukarski.
Left to cherish Doris’ loving memory are her children: David (Kelly) Evans, Douglas (Cynthia) Evans, Darrell (Julie) Evans, and Debra (DeWayne) Lambert; brothers: Charles and James (Julia) Chrisman; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In accordance with Doris’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorials made in Doris’ memory may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Envelopes are available at Hohner Funeral Home.
