Traffic stop leads to arrest on weapons charges

Charges are being sought against a Battle Creek woman for weapons-related offenses, according to Sheriff Mark Lillywhite.

The incident stems from a traffic stop Wednesday on M-60 near Haas Road in Mendon Township, where a deputy located a concealed weapon on the driver along with assorted jewelry in the vehicle.

The driver was questioned and admitted to not owning the jewelry. Among the jewelry was an early 1980s class ring from a Battle Creek-area high school.

The deputy was able to locate its owner, who now lives in South Carolina. Arrangements have been made for her to retrieve her items, which were stolen several years ago from a home in Battle Creek.

Potential felony charges against the 28-year-old suspect include possession of a concealed weapon and possession of stolen property.
