Fire destroys home northwest of Sturgis

A home at Fish Lake was destroyed by fire Sunday.

Firefighters from four departments responded to the blaze in the 63000 block of Pine Drive, about 8 miles northwest of Sturgis.

Everyone inside the home exited safely, officials said, adding no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, authorities said.

Tri-Township Fire Chief, Max Kulpinski said initial reports from eyewitnesses suggest the fire started at the south end of the home. It was a windy day, which did not help matters for firefighters, he added.

The home eventually collapsed as fire personnel were attempting to control the blaze. Most of the water used to fight the blaze was taken from Fish Lake.

Firefighters were at the scene for 3 ½ hours.
