Sturgis man arrested on multiple charges

Sturgis police responded at 8:30 p.m. Friday to the 900 block of Progress Street in response to a suspicious man in the vicinity.

The man, a 24-year-old Sturgis resident, fled on foot when officers arrived. He was eventually caught and charged with possessing of methamphetamine, stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, assaulting a police officer and possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.

In an unrelated case, officers were notified around 4:30 p.m. Saturday that a woman was assaulted in the area of West Congress and Pleasant streets. Officers found that the victim suffered knife cuts to her face.

A 27-year-old Three Rivers woman was charged with felonious assault.
