Constantine continues July 4th planning despite funding challenges

Members of the Constantine Village Council agreed Monday to continue with plans for a Fourth of July fireworks display despite a number of challenges, including funding.

Village manager Mark Honeysett asked the council for input, noting that Schoolcraft already has canceled its Independence Day celebration.

Honeysett said Constantine’s fireworks are sponsored primarily by a golf outing. The outing, which accounts for around 40 percent of the revenue for fireworks, is scheduled for June 13, Honeysett said.

He conceded it will be a challenge to put the golf outing together, and if it isn’t as successful as it has been in past years because of quarantine restrictions, there may not be enough money to pay for the fireworks.

Honeysett said the fireworks display costs about $7,500 and the village is about $2,500 short to adequately fund this year’s display.
