A standoff in Three Rivers ended Tuesday when a 54-year-old Three Rivers man was taken into custody.
Nobody was hurt during the nearly four-hour incident that started around 3 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue.
The Three Rivers Police Department and St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department said the origin of the incident centered on a report of shots fired after two people entered the residence to retrieve personal belongings. Authorities said it appears the suspect fired at least two shots but did not strike anyone.
Investigators said the man refused to comply when asked to step outside and speak to officers. A search warrant was subsequently secured, prompting activation of the St. Joseph County Special Response Team.
Extensive negotiations followed and the man eventually surrendered after authorities entered his residence at 6:45 p.m.
The suspect was expected to be arraigned today in St. Joseph County District Court, according to prosecutor John McDonough, adding that the suspect is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, resisting and obstructing police, felonious assault and felony firearm.
