Members of the Centreville Village Council voted Monday to delay a policy related to body-worn cameras until it can come up with additional language.
The policy applies to cameras worn by the village’s designated ordinance enforcement officer, building official, plumbing inspector, zoning administrator, mechanical inspector and electrical inspector.
Cameras are for use during the conducting of search warrants, and placing or removing of red-tags and stop-work orders. They are suggested to be used any time an officer or official determines a confrontation might occur at a property or during an inspection.
The policy at issue addresses disclosure and retention of recordings. The council wants to make sure it includes rules that recordings are kept for 30 days and reviewed by the village’s police committee prior to deletion of footage.
