Roman Kurzawski, 79

Roman Kurzawski, age 79, of Colon, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at his home after several months of failing health.

Roman was born July 13, 1930, a son to the late Gregory and Lucy Kurzawski.

On Jan. 9, 1954, he married Margaret E. Thatch in Louisville, Ky. and she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2000.

Roman had served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

He had made his home in Colon since 1969 coming from Harvey, Ill. Roman had worked for the former Kirsch Company of Sturgis from 1970 until his retirement in 1992.

Roman was a life time Chicago Cub’s & Bear’s fan, he also enjoyed bingo, fishing, golf, casinos, and hand crafts.

He is survived by one daughter, Sherri (C.J.) Haisman of Colon; one son, Michael L. (Stephanie) Kurzawski of Ceresco; five grandchildren, Jeffery and Jessica Wilder, Kristy Jopek and Katie and Gregory Kurzawski; four great-grandchildren, Denise, McKenzie, Marek and Brooke; two sisters, Stella Malesh of Colon and Virginia Stockey of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

There will be no visitations, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating.
