Jeanette York, 82

Jeanette Marilyn (Flint) York, age 82, of Three Rivers passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020, at Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis.

Jeanette was born in Ft. Wayne on April 24, 1938, the daughter of Harry and Sally (Tesch) Flint. After graduation from Kokomo High School in 1956, Jeanette moved with her family to the Three Rivers area where she remained a lifelong resident and a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

In April of 1957 Phillip York proposed marriage to Jeanette. In October of that same year, they were married and remained lifelong partners in faith and as parents to three children.

In her early work life, Jeanette was known for her short-hand and transcription skills. As her children grew, she worked as a church office secretary and an elementary school assistant.

Jeanette shared her mother’s love of flowers whether in gardens, planters, or fresh cut arrangements. She enjoyed fruit and vegetable gardening as well.  Her indoor pursuits included handcrafts such as sewing, crocheting and embroidery. She shared her love of music with her children, encouraging them to sing or play a musical instrument and she herself was long-time member of the choir at St. John’s.

Jeanette was a faithful and dedicated Christian throughout her life. She enjoyed supporting missions, events at the church, arts and crafts, food prep and serving. She demonstrated a special caring for refugees, devoting her love, time, and energy to tend the Laotian family sponsored by St. John’s, and, together with Philip, took into their home a young student from Swaziland whom they accepted as their own. She should be remembered by all who knew her for her compassion and empathy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip; and her brother, Gerald Flint.  Surviving to cherish Jeanette’s memory are her daughters Evelyn (Jay) Eichorn and Cathy Bradford; a son, Gregory York; and two grandchildren, Ashley Bryan and Jacob Bradford.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Three Rivers.  Envelopes are also available and may be sent to Hohner Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
